‘The Art of Living’ is the logo of department of Commerce. Commerce is an economic activity with mankind from time immemorial. Many civilizations have progress with the growth in trade and commerce. However, it is field of discipline, is almost of a century old. The first ever school of commerce started in India was the School of Commerce of trusties of pachayappasat Madras in 1889. As in this scenario of information technology, due to internet unstoppable immediate communication whatever events occurred in the world in whatever part of profession we are in, commerce has been immediately affected by that event. So in these days this discipline is shaping its name as E-commerce, E-business.
As a branch of knowledge, commerce imparts codified experience of business world at large in all its manifestations. It prepares learner for personally fruitful and socially desirable careers in business. Business has been defined in broader sense as ‘any human activity directed towards achieving wealth’. Concept of wealth differs from person to person. As human being all of us are doing business only the concept of wealth differs. To illustrate ‘a newly born baby not knowing any language – is also doing business as he / she communicates his /her mumma by her / his body gestures, expression as he / she want to be feded. For him or her mumma’s milk is wealth for his or her survival. In brief this discipline involves not only business, trades or production activities but has also entered in behavior aspects of human being. As human being all of us are engaged in one sort of activity for our survival. So it’s ‘Art of Living’! In current scenario, commerce core (E-commerce, E-business and AI Artificial intelligence ) involves directly or indirectly with every human being and AI has affected every sector. This programme includes - IT, Management, Human Resource Management, Finance, Economics, Banks, Insurance, Communications, Entrepreneurship, Laws, Value base Management, Business Math’s and statistics, Cost and Budgets, Marketing Management, Investment Management, Direct and Indirect Taxes, Personality Development programme, Rural development,Strategic Managementand so on. All these subjects impart us and help every human being for successful ‘ART OF LIVING’.
